Continuous ECG monitoring system

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

eMotion ECG Mobile is an FDA approved device for continuous ECG monitoring. The system contains a lightweight and comfortable wireless ECG sensor. This sensor continuously transmits the readings via Bluetooth to a mobile phone. The data is then uploaded to a secure server for analysis or online viewing of the data. If the device detects any irregularities in the ECG readings, it sends an alarm with the GPS locations of the patient over the mobile network to ensure immediate treatment to prevent further deterioration and possibly save the patient’s life. eMotion ECG Mobile gives patients the flexibility to continuously monitor their heart outside the confines of a clinic, which is also a huge benefit to hospitals and caregivers, allowing them to watch over a larger population more effectively in terms of costs and resources.

Glucose meter system receives FDA clearance for use with critically ill patients

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Last May, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared Nova Biomedical’s StatStrip Xpress Glucose Hospital Meter System for use throughout all hospital and all professional healthcare settings, including critically ill patients. StatStrip Glucose and StatStrip Xpress Glucose are now the only two hospital blood glucose meters to be cleared by the FDA for use with critically ill patients. Use of all other glucose meters with critically ill patients is considered off – label by the FDA and high complexity testing under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments. High complexity testing requirements are so stringent that to use a glucose meter other than StatStrip Glucose and StatStrip Xpress Glucose with critically ill patients is not a practical alternative. Stat- Strip Xpress Glucose utilizes the same test strip measurement technology as StatStrip Glucose, which was cleared in 2014 aft er an extensive, four-year study conducted at five major university medical centres. The study included 1,698 critically ill patients with over 257 medical condition subcategories as designated by the World Health Organization. Over 8,000 medications were investigated for potential interference to StatStrip Glucose measuring technology. StatStrip Glucose demonstrated excellent agreement compared to central laboratory reference methods and no clinical interferences were found. In addition to the study submitted to the FDA, 138 other independent studies over the last eight years

Calcification subtraction software for coronary angiography

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Visualization of the coronary lumen is improved by very advanced subtraction software. This represents a major step forward in diagnosing coronary artery disease in patients with severe calcium or stents for whom cardiac CT angiography was not recommended. This software was developed in close cooperation with the Iwate Medical University in Japan, leading hospitals in the USA and Europe and the European-based research centre, Toshiba Medical Visualization Systems. Severe coronary calcification influences the effectiveness of coronary CT angiography in ruling out coronary artery disease. Frequently these patients are referred for invasive angiography because of clinical suspicion of significant coronary artery disease. Stents placed in the coronary arteries can make visualization of the lumen within the stent difficult, hindering the ability to diagnose in-stent restenosis. SURESubtraction Coronary removes calcification and stents from the coronary arteries, therefore improving visualization of the coronary lumen. Blooming effects caused by calcification are dramatically reduced. An added benefit is that the subtraction can be obtained with a near-dose neutral scanning protocol. Coronary subtraction is performed by subtracting a routine calcium score dataset from a coronary CT angiography dataset. The calcium score scan is used as the non-contrast mask for subtraction. Atlas-based cardiac segmentation and sophisticated rigid and deformable registration algorithms enable accurate subtraction of the coronary arteries to become a reality, leading to improved visualization of the coronary lumen. The unique capabilities of the wide area detector Aquilion ONE series are a perfect platform for this new development. The 16cm z-axis coverage of the Aquilion ONE series allows imaging of the heart in just one rotation, ensuring the scan is performed at the same moment in time, making the registration and subtraction process as simple as possible.
