Adult and pediatric breathing systems

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Following the Compact extendable breathing systems for adults, a new pediatric range has been launched with features that offer some distinct advantages. Concertinaed supply increases the number of systems per box, for more cost effective storage and disposal. A standard box of Compact systems could provide a hospital with an extra three weeks supply. Adjustable length means the tubing can be extended/collapsed to suit exact needs. The shallow profile tube improves laminar gas flow with lower resistance to flow. Softer material results in a quiet, non-disruptive sound when expanded and collapsed while flexibility allows for easy tube positioning, without the need for additional connections, which suits head and neck surgery. Compliance is excellent when extended, at 0.28ml/mbar per metre of tube, less than that required in the ISO 5367:2000 standard. The Paediatric Compact breathing system is available in three lengths: 1.5m, 2.0m, and 3.0m (extended length). A one-litre reservoir bag with limb options are also available.

Digital fluoroscopy and radiography system

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

A new system for the mid-range price segment, Luminos Fusion with flat panel detector technology, can do both fulldigital fluoroscopy and radiography. The flat panel detector enables faster examinations and patient throughput compared to the mid-range image intensifiers that have been available up to now. Eliminating the use of cassettes, the flat panel detector features a 43×43 cm image surface that provides full-digital, distortion-free X-ray and fluoroscopic images within seconds. The higher-quality images generated by the flat panel detector give radiologists better diagnostic information and provide images double the size of that of those achieved with typical image intensifiers. The flat panel detector also takes up less space than image intensifiers and makes it easier for medical personnel to position the patient. The combination of fluoroscopy and radiography equipment helps increase system utilization and avoid idle time. Since fluoroscopy patients typically need to fast before an examination employing contrast agents, for example, appointments are generally scheduled in the morning. A 2-in-1 system like Luminos Fusion is available in the afternoon for X-ray imaging, so the equipment can be utilized at greater capacity. Luminos Fusion is equipped with SmartTouch technology for greater safety in the examination room. To reduce the risk of unwanted movements, the joysticks require skin contact of the operator’s hand, so the system cannot be moved accidentally and injure patients or medical personnel. Luminos Fusion also features the Careposition functionality, which enables radiation-free positioning of the examination area to protect against unnecessary radiation. Graphics on the screen show the user the position of where a new image will be taken relative to the last image taken.

Imaging integration in electrophysiology

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

EP navigator offers a novel approach to 3D rotational angiography that provides realtime anatomical details of cardiac LA-PV structures with significantly enhanced workflow. For hospital teams working in catheter ablation, capturing the best anatomical detail possible at time of procedure is essential to accurately guide catheters through the anatomy of a beating heart. Philips’EP navigator system provides a novel approach to 3D rotational angiography to capture these images, delivering an alternative to pre-procedural CT/MR imaging to obtain the LA-PV anatomy. Obtaining 3D rotational images can be challenging when treating large patients or performing procedures under general anesthesia. Philips’new EP navigator supports an optimized 3D rotational scan that significantly enhances the workflow for these procedures, by removing barriers encountered in the traditional workflow. In addition, the optimized 3D rotational scan requires less radiation exposure to capture the 3D image, as it uses a shortened trajectory of 159 degrees versus 240 degrees for the traditional scan. To maximize the benefits of advanced X-ray imaging and mapping solutions, integration is critical. Philips and Biosense Webster are collaborating to make such integration a reality. Philips EP navigator already supports seamless integration of the LA-PV anatomy obtained through 3D rotational scans, into Biosense Webster’s CARTO

Cricothyrotomy surgical set

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

In response to the NAP4 study addressing the clinical need for both Seldinger1 and surgical cricothyrotomy procedures to be taught side-by-side, Cook Medical is introducing a compact surgical set. This cricothyrotomy range expansion allows clinicians to stay up to date with the latest developments. The new surgical set can be used both inside and outside hospital settings. It is specifically packaged for procedural use and ideal for smaller work spaces. It is also easily transported in medical kit bags and packs. When a patient loses an airway, physicians oft en only have seconds to make a life-saving decision. Training and preparedness are key for successful surgical and Seldinger cricothyrotomy procedures. It is critical that healthcare institutions provide the equipment and training necessary for their staff to deal with emergency airway access procedures. Although it is a rare procedure, a cricothyrotomy can mean the difference between life and death. Being able to carry it out quickly minimizes the risk of damage from oxygen starvation.’

Portable blood pressure monitor

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The P800 is a portable blood pressure monitor that enables patients to take fast and accurate blood pressure readings at their own convenience. Up to 50 user profiles can be created and stored on the P800, each with their own personalized settings. For error-free user authentication, the device comes with a built-in fingerprint sensor to identify each user before starting the measurement process. This safeguards the accuracy of each user’s data and also offers greater convenience as compared to standard password-based authentication methods. Patients can also set alarms using the P800’s reminder function to prompt them to take their blood pressure measurements. The P800 comes equipped with Wi-Fi capabilities so the patient’s data will be automatically uploaded to REKA Health’s cloud platform after a reading is taken. If a wireless network is not present, patients can also easily upload their data via their smartphones using the REKA app. Physicians can then remotely review the data on REKA Health’s cloud platform for convenient monitoring of their patients’conditions.

Transcutaneous respiratory monitoring

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

For serial testing, non-invasive transcutaneous monitoring (TCM) is definitely a preferred route. TCM is ideal for sleep studies, allowing any nocturnal variation to be observed and helping to determine whether the patient requires continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or assisted ventilation, as well as enabling progress during treatment to be monitored. It is also beneficial for cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET). The TOSCA monitor is very intuitive and easy to use, from fitting new membranes to storing the electrodes. Calibration is quickly and consistently performed.  For patients, TOSCA is preferable to arterial blood sampling as it is completely painless.
