New tube detector for angiography system

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Studies show that on average one in four people suffer from atrial fibrillation, the most widespread form of cardiac arrhythmia, at some stage during their lives. Electrophysiological studies and interventions can be used to examine and treat a large number of patients. This involves ablating tiny points in the myocardial tissue using an ablation catheter in order to return the heart to its correct rhythm. Depending on the level of complexity, this type of procedure can take two to three hours. Each misrouting of the electrical impulses that trigger cardiac arrhythmia, which is measured in milliseconds, must first be located and mapped using electrophysiology catheters. It is only at that point that an individual treatment plan tailored to the patients’needs can be developed. This can now be achieved with radiation doses that are up to 85% below usual values, benefiting both patients and staff alike.
Another procedure where dose reduction is crucial is percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), in which the cardiologist has to position a stent with millimeter precision despite cardiac movement. Using Artis Q.zen, the cardiologist is supported by the advanced guidance of Clearstent Live, which allows stent enhancement to take place in real time. The software eliminates cardiac movement, allowing cardiologists to verify stent positioning relative to the cardiac anatomy or to previously deployed stents. The enhanced images are displayed side-by-side with the current live-image without any noticeable lag while the operator can still move the balloon-mounted stent. The significantly better visualization of the stent and vessel section eliminates the need for additional images to decide whether the stent has been fully expanded.
The Artis Q.zen angiography system now comes with two new advances making it possible to reduce the radiation dose while maintaining and improving the quality

CT scanner line extended

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The Somatom Perspective family of CT scanners that are particularly economical has two new members, the 16- and 32-slice configurations. These new models make numerous high-end technologies available to a broader clientele for the first time with an additional option to upgrade the systems later to the established 64- and 128-slice configurations. For all four configurations, the company now offers the innovative eCockpit technology package, which makes the Somatom Perspective not only easier and more cost-efficient to use, but also lengthens the systems’service life.
The well-established eMode function, for example, helps reduce equipment downtime by more than 20 percent. With the Somatom Perspective, Siemens Healthcare expands its product range in the lower and mediumpriced segments. The two additional configurations make it possible to tailor a CT system individually to fit particular clinical needs. For example, the 16-slice configuration is suitable above all for routine scans in oncology and for imaging the head, lungs, abdomen, or chest. However, the model is also useful in pain therapy to ensure that analgesics are delivered to the right place during surgery. The 32-slice configuration provides more detailed imaging for bone fractures, examinations of the inner ear, or vascular applications; whereas the 64-slice scanner has remarkably fast image acquisition. With particularly short scanning times, the 128-slice configuration is especially suitable for diagnostics in cardiology and pediatrics. Technologies such as Safire (Sinogram Affirmed Iterative Reconstruction) are now available in the segment of 16- and 32-slice CT scanners. The iterative image reconstruction method enables to reduce radiation dose by as much as 60 percent, or improve image quality correspondingly.
In future it will also be possible to acquire single source Dual Energy images with any Somatom Perspective model. With this innovation, the same region of the body is scanned twice in succession at two different tube voltages, i.e. energy levels, using half the radiation dose each time. Merging the two image datasets provides information not only about pure morphology, but also additional details about the composition of the scanned tissue. For example, metal artifacts

CMOS digital detector for dentistry and orthopedic imaging

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

3D imaging is becoming more widespread in dentistry, and Cone Beam CT reduces significantly dose exposure compared to scanners. Thales’new SiX 650 HD detector based on CMOS technology offers two levels of sensitivity to meet the requirements of both CBCT and panoramic imaging.  The SiX 650 HD 12 x 15 cm digital detector offers critical advantages for patients and practitioners alike: low dose and quick acquisition of high-resolution images. The new-gen CMOS technology results in the detector’s outstanding performance, with very low image noise, absence of artefacts, high sensitivity and low power consumption. Supplied with a software development kit, the SiX 650 HD is also light, compact, easy to use and to integrate in X-ray systems. It can also be used with mini C-arms for orthopedic applications.

Resuscitation pack

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The i-gel O2 Resus Pack contains everything that is needed to prepare, insert and secure the i-gel O2 quickly and efficiently: an i-gel O2 supraglottic airway, a sachet of lubricant, airway support strap and a suction tube. The i-gel O2 has been specially designed to facilitate ventilation as part of standard resuscitation protocols, such as those designated by the European Resuscitation Council (ERC). However, the i-gel O2 also incorporates a supplementary oxygen port for the delivery of passive oxygenation, or Passive Airway Management (PAMTM), as part of an appropriate Cardio Cerebral Resuscitation (CCR) protocol. A number of case reports and clinical studies have highlighted the potential advantages of the standard i-gel device in the resuscitation scenario, where seconds can make all the difference. With its unique, soft, non-inflatable cuff, valuable time is not wasted deflating and inflating a cuff. This allows a patent airway to be established in the quickest possible time. In many cases, insertion can be achieved in less than 5 seconds.

CT-proAVP assay for vasopressin

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The BRAHMS CTproAVP KRYPTOR (LIA also available) is a unique assay for the reliable determination of the very unstable vasopressin by the measurement of the stable C-terminal part of the prohormone of vasopressin (CT-proAVP). CT-proAVP shows the same kinetics as vasopressin, is extremely stable and therefore easy to measure. As CT-proAVP is released into the circulation in equimolar amounts, it is an equivalent for vasopressin in all clinical indications where vasopressin is indicated, such as water balance testing. Particularly due to its higher sensitivity and easier handling compared to currently available vasopressin assays

Angiography system for universal use

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Optimized for a broad clinical utilization, Artis one is designed for routine interventions, which represent the majority of angiographic procedures. Energy consumption with the new system is up to 20% lower than with Artis zee floor. Thousands of angiographic procedures are performed each day worldwide. On the one hand, these include treatment of highly complex cases requiring a high degree of tailoring of the angiography lab’s configuration. On the other hand, there are many routine interventions, which represent the clear majority of cases. These include, for example, revascularizations of peripheral arterial or venous occlusions, functional tests of dialysis shunts in patients with kidney failure or of implanted ports in tumour patients. Diagnostic angiographies of coronary stenosis and their treatment or pacemaker implantations are also established routine procedures. Artis one has been developed to support all of these interventions. Despite being floor-mounted, the new angiography system is similar in positioning flexibility to ceiling-mounted systems and requires substantially less space: Artis one occupies only 25 square meters, compared to the usual 45 square meters required by ceiling-mounted systems. The system features several axes which can be moved independently of each other. This allows physicians and hospital staff to easily position the system where needed
