Patient monitor

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

A multi-parameter bedside monitor, the FX 3000 enables monitoring and supervision of patient’s vital signs in ICUs, operating rooms and at pre- and post-operative wards as well as in neonatal units. The monitor can function as a separate device and also as part of the FX 3000 Intensive Care System. It ensures monitoring and supervision of important physiological parameters, with additional options being available, including a drug calculator, thermal printer and selectable waveforms sweep speeds. Other optional features are an interactive viewer of monitor screens connected together into a network, an archive and an archive transfer and viewing feature. Alarms are provided to signal when limits of measured parameters are exceeded. The large memory allows the storing and archiving of patient information, and the transmitting of this information to the central station and databases in other IT systems.

CT scanner

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The new computed tomography (CT) scanner, the Somatom Perspective, is particularly efficient in operation. This scanner is the first to offer eMode functionality. It determines the best correlation between dose, cost efficiency and image quality and adjusts the required scan parameters automatically. The system’s operation can thus be optimised for the individual scan, for example in terms of tube current or scan velocity. This option relieves wear and tear on the CT and increases its life span. Special service offerings and even the design of the scanner help keep down overall operating costs. Suited to cover all clinical fields, including cardiaovascular studies, this CT scanner allows clinics and practices to extend their range of available examinations even where budgets are tight. With this new scanner, Siemens further extends its portfolio for the middle price segment. The scanner will be available from the second quarter of 2012.

Portable therapeutic hypothermia solution

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Therapeutic hypothermia is gaining increasing acceptance following cardiac arrest in both the pre-hospital and hospital environments. Landmark clinical studies demonstrating that mild hypothermia lowers mortality and improves neurological outcome after successful resuscitation from cardiac arrest were published in 2002. The European Hypothermia After Cardiac Arrest (HACA) trial group demonstrated an improvement in survival to hospital discharge with favourable neurological status in cooled patients compared with normothermic patients surviving cardiac arrest (53 percent versus 36 percent respectively), with no significant adverse events from cooling. The RhinoChill intranasal cooling system is a non-invasive, portable system for transnasally cooling the head and lowering the body’s core temperature immediately following cardiac arrest, stroke or traumatic brain injury. Quick to set up and extremely easy to use, the system uses a non-invasive nasal catheter that sprays a rapidly evaporating, inert coolant liquid into the nasal cavity, a large area situated beneath the brain that acts as a heat exchanger. As the liquid evaporates, heat is directly removed from the base of the skull and surrounding tissues via conduction and indirectly through the blood via convection. The system is battery-powered, compact and does not require refrigeration, making it ideal for use in pre-hospital settings. Each coolant bottle holds enough liquid to cool a patient for 30 minutes at nominal flow, and bottles can be easily exchanged to maintain the cooling process.

Three-lumen CVC with continuous blood glucose and lactate monitoring

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Every year, millions of CVCs are used by clinicians to deliver medications and fluids to patients in surgical and intensive care (ICU) settings. Major risks seen among ICU patients include hyperglycaemia, hypoglycaemia and glycaemic variability, and the lack of glycaemic control has been independently shown to be associated with morbidity and mortality. To monitor glucose levels, ICU patients are therefore typically subjected to frequent glucose controls, commonly by use of manual and labourintensive blood draws and off-line analysis. The Eirus TLC is now available, a 7 French, 16 cm triple lumen CVC which provides vascular access and the ability to provide simple, continuous and accurate glucose monitoring. It can be used as a standalone CVC but is also approved for use with the Eirus system for second-by-second analysis of central venous blood glucose and lactate. The catheter has an integrated semi-permeable membrane, proximal to the infusion ports, which continuously collects and analyses plasma glucose and lactate. The system does not pull any blood from the patient, it does not require any heparin nor does it require a separate additional line into the patient.

X-ray system allowing full-patient access

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The first interventional X-ray system designed to capture the advantages of both floor- and ceiling- mounted systems, the Discovery IGS 730 incorporates laser-guided motion technology on a motorised mobile gantry for predictable and precise trajectories. Wide bore 3D facilitates 3D acquisitions. More than 20 advanced applications are available, including off-centred 3D acquisitions to cover anatomies such as the borders of the liver during liver oncology procedures or the skin line during imageguided needle procedures. Neither floornor ceiling-mounted, the system enables full patient access without the need to suspend it above the patient. It has the mobility of a C-arm with the power and image quality of a fixed system. The mobile gantry creates an interventional environment without boundaries. It allows complete access to the patient and unlimited parking capability, while creating sterility for a flexible and secure OR environment. The wide bore design allows for steep angles, especially for large patients. The C-arm is mounted on an Advanced Guided Vehicle (AGV), a motorised and fully mobile system. Based on laser guidance, the AGV can move freely from imaging position to parking or back-out positions, using predefined trajectories to provide total patient access. The motion is predictable, precise and easy to use, allowing fine control and positioning at any moment in the procedure. Parking locations and back-out distances are customisable for different room configurations.
