Vital signs monitor

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

The Connex VSM (CVSM) 6000 Series is a full-colour, touch screen device that acts as three devices in one, providing comprehensive patient documentation on a single display. This documentation includes automatic measurements such as heart rate, blood pressure, temperature and pulse oximetry; manual parameters such as respiration, height, weight and pain level; and modifiers such as body position, O2 therapy details and others. The instrument also allows alarms to be controlled and patient data and monitoring to be customised for each patient. These data can be documented right on the device, eliminating the need to locate a PC and transcribe data later. The instrument also enables two-way wireless communication from the bedside. It associates ID numbers to names to help clinicians properly identify patients and allows them to customise which ID fields are required and how they are displayed, including simultaneous display of multiple forms of ID. The wireless technology is built right into the system allowing the monitor to act as a true mobile device, and it works with current wireless networks to deliver up-to-date patient demographics.

Noninvasive BP and fluid status monitoring

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

CNAP PPV is the latest generation of the CNAP (Continuous Noninvasive Arterial Pressure) technology from CNSystems. Like the first generation product, the new device measures noninvasive blood pressure for each heartbeat using finger sensors. The additional function is the continuous measurement of the patient’s fluid status during operations. In case of a deficit, an infusion can then be administered and therefore complications be avoided. The device extends the positive outcome of goal-directed fluid management beyond high-risk, arterial-line or Doppler-monitored surgeries. This would allow fluid management to become an actual and routine clinical standard for anaesthetised patients. According to experts, in 39% of all operations patients would be eligible for this method of fluid management. It thus provides a cost-saving solution, since complications are decreased, treatment is optimised and the length of hospitalisation is reduced.

Portable therapeutic hypothermia solution

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Therapeutic hypothermia is gaining increasing acceptance following cardiac arrest in both the pre-hospital and hospital environments. Landmark clinical studies demonstrating that mild hypothermia lowers mortality and improves neurological outcome after successful resuscitation from cardiac arrest were published in 2002. The European Hypothermia After Cardiac Arrest (HACA) trial group demonstrated an improvement in survival to hospital discharge with favourable neurological status in cooled patients compared with normothermic patients surviving cardiac arrest (53 percent versus 36 percent respectively), with no significant adverse events from cooling. The RhinoChill intranasal cooling system is a non-invasive, portable system for transnasally cooling the head and lowering the body’s core temperature immediately following cardiac arrest, stroke or traumatic brain injury. Quick to set up and extremely easy to use, the system uses a non-invasive nasal catheter that sprays a rapidly evaporating, inert coolant liquid into the nasal cavity, a large area situated beneath the brain that acts as a heat exchanger. As the liquid evaporates, heat is directly removed from the base of the skull and surrounding tissues via conduction and indirectly through the blood via convection. The system is battery-powered, compact and does not require refrigeration, making it ideal for use in pre-hospital settings. Each coolant bottle holds enough liquid to cool a patient for 30 minutes at nominal flow, and bottles can be easily exchanged to maintain the cooling process.

Mammography system

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

An exciting innovation to facilitate the diagnosis of breast diseases, SenoBright provides two images in the same orientation for each of the standard CC and MLO views. The first image exposure uses standard mammography parameters, while the second image shows contrast-enhanced areas with the background tissue signal suppressed. Thanks to this combination of two types of images, generated by the system, one obtained at low-energy spectrum and one at high-energy spectrum, one clear final image is obtained where signal from the normal tissue is removed and where contrast appears very distinctly. This system could be an interesting alternative when additional tests are required to clarify an equivocal lesion, being a very fast imaging technique with immediate availability in the mammography suite without the waiting often associated with scheduling other types of tests and waiting for the results.

Tomography system for lung function monitoring

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

There is a need to assess regional lung function in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) on mechanical ventilation. EIT PulmonaryScan is the first non-invasive bedside tomography system for monitoring of the lungs, providing real-time breath by breath diagnostic information. This valuable clinical bedside monitoring tool for the optimisation of artificial ventilation therapy offers many advantages over routinely used methods. Monitoring regional lung function can provide additional information since changes in thoracic air content yield large changes in thoracic impedance. In patients with ARDS, the ventilation-induced impedance change in the dependent part of the lungs increases more significantly than in the non-dependent areas when end-expiratory airway pressure (PEEP) is increased; this allows opening of collapsed alveoli in the dependent region of the lungs leading to increased ventilation. Previously it was assumed that the lower inflation point of the PV curve, where volume rapidly increases, could be used for optimising ventilatory pressure settings. However, as EIT has demonstrated, dependent lung regions require significantly higher opening pressure than non-dependent lung regions. This is a significant finding: lungs require a higher area pressure to be fully recruited than can be detected from the global PV curve.

Interventional X-ray system

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Findings from a recent landmark clinical trial demonstrate that, during coronary angiographies, equivalent image quality can be achieved using a 50% reduction in radiation dose compared to a traditional imaging system. In other types of clinical applications, such as DSA angiography, studies have shown dose reduction of up to 83%. Traditionally, the use of lower doses of radiation during interventional X-ray procedures resulted in a deterioration of the image quality, which could adversely affect the accuracy of the diagnosis and treatment by the clinician. Now, with Philips’ClarityIQ technology, clinicians can reduce the doses to which a patient is exposed without sacrificing image quality, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of their diagnosis and treatment. The Allura Clarity family from Philips is the first X-ray system with the new ClarityIQ technology. It offers industry-leading image quality, equivalent to the Allura Xper generation, at a fraction of the dose during coronary angiographics.
