Conventional MR scanners can generate noise in excess of 110 dBA (decibels) levels, roughly equivalent to rock concerts and requires ear protection. GE’s exclusive Silent Scan technology is designed to reduce MR scanner noise to near ambient (background) sound levels and thus can improve a patient’s MR exam experience. Historically, acoustic noise mitigation techniques have focused on insulating components and muffling sound as opposed to treating the noise at the source. With Silent Scan, acoustic noise is essentially eliminated by employing a new advanced 3D acquisition and reconstruction technique called Silenz, in combination with GE Healthcare’s proprietary design of the high-fidelity MR gradient and RF system electronics. Silent Scan is designed to eliminate the noise at its source.

The vacuum regulator is used to measure and adjust the vacuum level during medical suctions. It enables the draining of substances out of the patient’s body during surgical procedures.
The RViTM offers two different types of suction: an intermittent mode (16 seconds ON and 8 seconds OFF) for gastric drainage and a continuous one for other suctions. The INT/OFF/ REG switch button provides an easy selection of the different modes and a dynamic regulation of the vacuum level. Compact, strong and ergonomic, the RViTM is supplied with a 100ml safety jar equipped with a mechanical anti-overflow safety valve and a single-use antibacterial filter. This safety jar does not require any sterilization in normal use, allowing cost and time savings. Supplied in various international standards, the RViTM is available with a dual display in mmHg/mbar for low, medium and high suction levels.

The Carestream DRX 2530C detector offers high resolution, low dose X-ray exams for pediatric, orthopedic and general radiology applications. The 25 cm x 30 cm detector recently received FDA clearance. Not only does it fit into an incubator tray, it can offer better patient care by providing exceptionally high-quality images at a low dose for premature babies and infants in the pediatric ICU. The cesium iodide detector offers high DQE (detective quantum efficiency) and lower X-ray exposure than CR cassettes or gadolinium scintillator detectors. The new detector’s small size and light weight is also ideal for orthopedic and general radiography exams. Like Carestream’s DRX-1 and DRX-1C detectors, the new DRX 2530C detector can be used with any member of the DRX family of in-room and mobile imaging systems. The company also offers advanced image processing software that can enhance image quality for pediatric patients. The software delivers optimized image processing and exposure techniques for seven different pediatric weight/age categories to satisfy FDA guidelines for pediatric exams.

The Cardiologic Explorer is a tool for cardiac diagnosis, providing a 12-lead rest ECG, ergometry and cardiogoniometry (CGM). Cardiogoniometry is a new method that offers a great variety of use, since it is the first completely stress-free method for the diagnosis of cardiac ischemia. Within 12 seconds the potentials in depolarization and repolarization stages are evaluated in a spatial way, allowing a very accurate evaluation of ischemia. The Vascular Explorer completes the diagnosis by providing an easy-to-apply tool for vascular analysis. Using Pulse Wave Velocity, Augmentation Index and Central Blood Pressure in combination with Peripheral Arterial Occlusive Disease (PAOD) screening by Ankle-Brachial-Index it offers a full overview on the arterial status and cardiovascular risk factors of a person. Both devices are easy-to-use, fast and user-independent and can be applied all along the diagnostic chain: from general practitioners to specialized chest pain units.
Following the Compact extendable breathing systems for adults, a new pediatric range has been launched with features that offer some distinct advantages. Concertinaed supply increases the number of systems per box, for more cost effective storage and disposal. A standard box of Compact systems could provide a hospital with an extra three weeks supply. Adjustable length means the tubing can be extended/collapsed to suit exact needs. The shallow profile tube improves laminar gas flow with lower resistance to flow. Softer material results in a quiet, non-disruptive sound when expanded and collapsed while flexibility allows for easy tube positioning, without the need for additional connections, which suits head and neck surgery. Compliance is excellent when extended, at 0.28ml/mbar per metre of tube, less than that required in the ISO 5367:2000 standard. The Paediatric Compact breathing system is available in three lengths: 1.5m, 2.0m, and 3.0m (extended length). A one-litre reservoir bag with limb options are also available.

A new system for the mid-range price segment, Luminos Fusion with flat panel detector technology, can do both fulldigital fluoroscopy and radiography. The flat panel detector enables faster examinations and patient throughput compared to the mid-range image intensifiers that have been available up to now. Eliminating the use of cassettes, the flat panel detector features a 43×43 cm image surface that provides full-digital, distortion-free X-ray and fluoroscopic images within seconds. The higher-quality images generated by the flat panel detector give radiologists better diagnostic information and provide images double the size of that of those achieved with typical image intensifiers. The flat panel detector also takes up less space than image intensifiers and makes it easier for medical personnel to position the patient. The combination of fluoroscopy and radiography equipment helps increase system utilization and avoid idle time. Since fluoroscopy patients typically need to fast before an examination employing contrast agents, for example, appointments are generally scheduled in the morning. A 2-in-1 system like Luminos Fusion is available in the afternoon for X-ray imaging, so the equipment can be utilized at greater capacity. Luminos Fusion is equipped with SmartTouch technology for greater safety in the examination room. To reduce the risk of unwanted movements, the joysticks require skin contact of the operator’s hand, so the system cannot be moved accidentally and injure patients or medical personnel. Luminos Fusion also features the Careposition functionality, which enables radiation-free positioning of the examination area to protect against unnecessary radiation. Graphics on the screen show the user the position of where a new image will be taken relative to the last image taken.
