Portable therapeutic hypothermia solution

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Therapeutic hypothermia is gaining increasing acceptance following cardiac arrest in both the pre-hospital and hospital environments. Landmark clinical studies demonstrating that mild hypothermia lowers mortality and improves neurological outcome after successful resuscitation from cardiac arrest were published in 2002. The European Hypothermia After Cardiac Arrest (HACA) trial group demonstrated an improvement in survival to hospital discharge with favourable neurological status in cooled patients compared with normothermic patients surviving cardiac arrest (53 percent versus 36 percent respectively), with no significant adverse events from cooling. The RhinoChill intranasal cooling system is a non-invasive, portable system for transnasally cooling the head and lowering the body’s core temperature immediately following cardiac arrest, stroke or traumatic brain injury. Quick to set up and extremely easy to use, the system uses a non-invasive nasal catheter that sprays a rapidly evaporating, inert coolant liquid into the nasal cavity, a large area situated beneath the brain that acts as a heat exchanger. As the liquid evaporates, heat is directly removed from the base of the skull and surrounding tissues via conduction and indirectly through the blood via convection. The system is battery-powered, compact and does not require refrigeration, making it ideal for use in pre-hospital settings. Each coolant bottle holds enough liquid to cool a patient for 30 minutes at nominal flow, and bottles can be easily exchanged to maintain the cooling process.

Three-lumen CVC with continuous blood glucose and lactate monitoring

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Every year, millions of CVCs are used by clinicians to deliver medications and fluids to patients in surgical and intensive care (ICU) settings. Major risks seen among ICU patients include hyperglycaemia, hypoglycaemia and glycaemic variability, and the lack of glycaemic control has been independently shown to be associated with morbidity and mortality. To monitor glucose levels, ICU patients are therefore typically subjected to frequent glucose controls, commonly by use of manual and labourintensive blood draws and off-line analysis. The Eirus TLC is now available, a 7 French, 16 cm triple lumen CVC which provides vascular access and the ability to provide simple, continuous and accurate glucose monitoring. It can be used as a standalone CVC but is also approved for use with the Eirus system for second-by-second analysis of central venous blood glucose and lactate. The catheter has an integrated semi-permeable membrane, proximal to the infusion ports, which continuously collects and analyses plasma glucose and lactate. The system does not pull any blood from the patient, it does not require any heparin nor does it require a separate additional line into the patient.

Radiography system for smaller hospitals

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

A new radiography system, Multix Fusion enables small and medium-size hospitals to deploy proven high-end technology without overtaxing investment budgets. The system supports the full spectrum of clinical applications, but is much more affordable than comparable predecessor models. It features components that until now were offered only in the upper price segments, such as the heightadjustable, 300 kilogram capacity examination table. Thanks to its high reliability and attractive service contracts, the system’s operating costs are also comparatively low. The system’s key components, such as the ceiling-mounted X-ray tube and Bucky wall stand, were adopted from Siemens’high-end Ysio system to provide a system that is most suitable for small to medium-size hospitals and private practices that don’t want to compromise on quality, but require a very good price-performance ratio. The system needs less than 20 square meters of installation space. Thanks to a special service contract that is configured for individual customer requirements, operating costs are further reduced. The system’s X-ray tube synchronises itself automatically when the detector is adjusted, enabling examinations to be performed quickly and simply. A 1.8 meter long telescopic column allows the tube to be pulled down directly above the floor even in high-ceilinged rooms, so that patients no longer have to climb onto a stool or pedestal for foot images, for example. The ergonomic, height-adjustable examination table makes it easier to position patients. Post-processing functions, such as DiamondView Plus, boost image contrast, resulting in very good image quality. In addition customers can choose among several system variants, depending on their requirements. Options range from the simplest version with ceiling-mounted tube and mobile detector, to the complete X-ray system, including table and Bucky wall stand.

Bedside glucose monitor for the ICU

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

An automated, plasma-based bedside glucose monitoring system, the OptiScanner assists healthcare providers to manage the glucose level of critically ill patients within an optimum target range. The system draws a small amount of patient blood (only 0.12 mL per draw) every 15 minutes, extracts plasma in a micro-centrifuge and then transports the plasma to be read by a near-infrared spectrometer. A proprietary algorithm automatically adjusts for interferences and within a few minutes of the blood draw, a glucose reading is displayed on the front of the instrument. Because a reading is provided every 15 minutes, glycaemic trends can be displayed prominently, indicating whether a patient is euglycaemic, hyperglycaemic or hypoglycaemic. Healthcare providers can track a patient’s glucose and use trending data to aid in decision making, potentially helping patients to stay in a healthy glycaemic range.

Diagnostic ultrasound system

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

A state-of-the-art ultrasound system, the DC-8 performs well for a wide range of physical examinations, from deep abdominal sites to small superficial areas or from minute vessels to large muscular structures, thanks to new technologies and innovative image processing algorithms. The unique 3T transducer technology increases bandwidth and transmission efficiency, thus offering better SNR and improved resolution. It enables higher frequency scans even focusing on deep structures, easier and faster image aquisition and better image clarity even when scanning the most challenging patients. Another innovative technology, iFlow, allows better visualisation of tiny vessels and complex flow patterns. The exclusive processing algorithm allows the detection of very weak colour Doppler signals with an optimal S/N ratio and provides excellent spatial resolution without compromising penetration or sensitivity. The ultra wideband nonlinear processing technology enhances contrast capabilities. With ultra-wideband signal transmission, the system can manipulate both 2nd harmonic and non-linear fundamental signals, and finally generate significantly enhanced images. Other technologies include high resolution iClear, now available for 3D/4D imaging, which is a speckle suppression technology for improving contrast resolution to better detect and visualise pathological structures, and iBeam spatial compounding, which uses multiple scan angles to form a single image with enhanced contrast resolution and improved visualisation. The new platform also enables optimum flexibility for post processing and analysis of the raw data image, allowing maximum productivity to be achieved.

Phthalate free medical gas hose

, 26 August 2020/in Product News /by 3wmedia

Recent directives have significantly limited the use of materials containing phthalates in items such as food tubing, infant feed bottles and teats as phthalates are perceived as a potential carcinogen. In PVC hoses, phthalates account for around 30% of the material and are required in the plasticiser to give the tubing its necessary elasticity and therefore suitability for use in operating theatres and bedside services. Purehose is a phthalate free medical gas hose. The polyurethane material used in its manufacture has the required flexibility as an inherent property, with no loss of strength or rigidity. This gas hose is fully compliant with all the most recent specifications and is available in a range of sizes and lengths, and in a variety of colours.
