Vetter reveals next-generation syringe closure system for 2027

Global contract development and manufacturing organisation Vetter has announced the development of V-OVS next, an evolution of their proprietary syringe closure system. The updated design, scheduled for launch in 2027, incorporates technical advances based on market requirements and customer feedback from clinical applications.

Vetter reveals next-generation syringe closure system

The German pharmaceutical service provider is finalising the design of their next-generation closure system, which promises enhanced functionality for glass-barrel syringes. Notable improvements include a more compact form factor optimised for smaller syringe sizes, refined gripping surfaces, and a reinforced locking mechanism developed for demanding clinical environments.

Enhanced user interface design

“With its proprietary tamper-evident features, we’re confident that V-OVS next will bring a new level of user-friendliness to Luer Lock applications,” notes Tobias Nemeth, Director Primary Packaging Service & Projects at Vetter. The system maintains the gold-standard Luer Lock features whilst incorporating an improved opening mechanism and handling characteristics.

Clinical validation progress

Recent human factors studies conducted with frontline clinical users have yielded positive feedback, which will inform the final design iterations. The company reports that these insights are being integrated into the development process to ensure optimal functionality in real-world clinical settings.

Following the launch, Vetter plans to maintain both the current V-OVS and V-OVS next systems in their portfolio, providing customers with expanded options for their injectable drug products. This dual-offering strategy aims to accommodate varying requirements across different pharmaceutical applications.

Technical advantages

Key technical improvements in the V-OVS next system include:

  • Optimised product integrity protection
  • Enhanced tamper-evident features
  • Reduced overall dimensions for compatibility with smaller syringes
  • Upgraded gripping surfaces for improved control
  • Advanced locking mechanism for challenging clinical scenarios
