Samsung expands diagnostic imaging portfolio with focus on paediatric care
Samsung Electronics Health and Medical Equipment Business and Samsung Medison have unveiled new diagnostic imaging equipment at the 2024 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) conference, with a significant focus on paediatric care solutions.
The company introduced a specialised paediatric cardiac ultrasound probe, the TA2-9, featuring a 42% smaller head compared to adult echocardiography probes. This design enables more precise diagnosis of congenital heart disease and cardiac structural abnormalities via the oral route. Additionally, the L3-22 neonatal probe, with its compact head and wide frequency range, facilitates comprehensive paediatric body scanning without probe changes.
Cost-effective floor-mounted digital radiography solution
The company also launched a new floor-mounted digital X-ray system, the GF 85, offering a more economical alternative to ceiling-mounted units. The system maintains image quality whilst incorporating low-dose capabilities and artificial intelligence-assisted diagnostics. All Samsung’s FDA 510(k)-cleared digital X-ray products feature ‘low dose’ capability through the proprietary S-Vue™ imaging engine, which reduces radiation exposure by up to 50% compared to systems without this technology.
Advanced point-of-care computed tomography
NeuroLogica Corporation, a Samsung Electronics subsidiary, showcased its OmniTom Elite mobile CT system with photon counting detector (PCD) technology. This FDA 510(k) cleared system delivers ultra-high-resolution imaging at the point of care, surpassing conventional energy-integrating detector methods. The technology’s enhanced contrast differentiation and virtual monoenergetic imaging capabilities aim to improve diagnostic confidence.
The mobile CT platform has gained significant traction in paediatric care, with adoption by eight of the top ten US paediatric hospitals, as ranked by U.S. News for 2024-2025
New obstetric ultrasound system
At RSNA 2024, Samsung Medison has also showcased the HERA Z20, a premium obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound system, which was introduced in September at the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology (ISUOG) World Congress 2024. The system incorporates several AI-assisted diagnostic features, including Live ViewAssist™ for real-time diagnostic location and automated cross-section classification.
Image quality enhancements include Live Q-scan for real-time noise reduction and A-Focus™ for improved clarity across scanning depths. The second-generation Crystal Architecture™ imaging engine provides enhanced image clarity.
HERA Z20 enhances user convenience through My HERA™ which goes beyond the AI diagnostic assist feature. My HERA enables users to build personalized ultrasound settings, by setting diagnostic values for each user type in advance.
Additionally, the EzStructure™ and EzFlow™ features provide convenient, optimal imaging settings for the anatomy to be examined with a single touch of a button. The main monitor and touch panel have freely adjustable angles and are ergonomically tailored for user convenience.
The HERA Z20 demonstrates Samsung’s commitment to sustainability through reduced product volume, minimised component count, and the use of recycled materials. The system packaging utilises 100% recycled paper, and the body incorporates recycled plastic materials.
