Philips expands cloud-based radiology imaging services across Europe

Royal Philips has announced the expansion of its cloud-based radiology informatics solutions to European markets, bringing AI-enabled workflows and innovative imaging services to healthcare providers across the continent. The HealthSuite Imaging platform, successfully deployed across over 150 sites in North and Latin America, will now serve European radiology departments through Amazon Web Services infrastructure.

Philips launches HealthSuite

Cloud migration addresses healthcare demands

The expansion comes as healthcare organisations increasingly adopt cloud technologies, with 95% of providers planning to migrate over half of their applications to cloud platforms within three years. Philips HealthSuite Imaging operates as a comprehensive software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution, providing regular upgrades, security patches, and compliance monitoring whilst enabling secure data management and remote access capabilities.

“The availability of Philips’ cloud-based radiology solutions in Europe will be a game changer for healthcare providers, helping them to manage staff shortages, optimise workflows and drive better outcomes,” said Shez Partovi, Business Leader Enterprise Informatics at Philips.

Generative AI integration for clinical workflows

A key focus of the European rollout involves exploring generative AI capabilities to enhance radiology reporting efficiency. Philips is developing conversational reporting tools designed to reduce administrative burdens and repetitive tasks, allowing clinicians to concentrate on critical decision-making processes. These AI applications leverage foundation models from Amazon Bedrock and integrate seamlessly into existing clinical workflows.

The technology aims to address increasing clinical demands and workforce shortages facing radiology departments. By automating routine reporting tasks, the system enables radiologists to focus their expertise on complex diagnostic challenges whilst maintaining high-quality patient care standards.

Clinical validation and user experience

Early adoption feedback demonstrates promising results for AI-enhanced reporting capabilities. Dr J.J. Visser, Radiologist and CMIO at Erasmus Medical Centre, noted: “Ambient reporting in radiology is just the beginning of using large language models in reporting. It’s not only about speed; with fewer distractions from the reporting tool, I can focus more on image details and produce higher-quality reports in less time. I anticipate even greater advancements in the coming years.”

European market implementation

The cloud services expansion covers multiple European territories, including Italy, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Finland. However, cloud services implementation in EU markets remains pending approval from the notified body DEKRA for regulatory compliance.

Enhanced accessibility and operational efficiency

The cloud-based platform provides clinicians with secure, location-independent access to imaging studies and AI-enabled clinical workflows. This accessibility enhances collaboration between healthcare teams, accelerates clinical decision-making processes, and improves overall patient care delivery. Remote access capabilities for scheduling, diagnostic reading, and integrated reporting enable rapid adoption of new technologies whilst reducing IT management burdens for healthcare organisations.

Scalability and security framework

As a pure SaaS model managed by Philips and hosted on AWS, HealthSuite Imaging provides enterprise-grade scalability and security features. The platform enables radiology departments to leverage transformative AI capabilities whilst maintaining robust data protection standards required for clinical environments.

The solution addresses critical challenges facing modern radiology departments, including staff shortages, increasing imaging volumes, and the need for enhanced operational efficiency. By providing cloud-based access to advanced imaging tools and AI-enabled workflows, the platform supports healthcare providers in delivering improved patient outcomes.
