Interim Diagnostic Imaging introduces expanded-width mobile MRI scanner trailer
Mobile diagnostic imaging provider Interim Diagnostic Imaging (IDI) and its parent company Modular Devices have introduced what they report to be the first 3-metre (10-foot) wide mobile magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner trailer. At 10 foot wide, this expanded-width trailer is 2 foot wider than other mobile MRI trailers on the market.
The mobile unit houses a Siemens Aera 1.5T MRI system with a 70 cm open bore. The scanner features multiple coil configurations to accommodate various imaging applications. The manufacturer states that real-time monitoring capabilities are included, and the system is supported by a Siemens OEM service agreement.
Design considerations
The expanded-width trailer, measuring 3 metres by 14.6 metres (10 feet by 48 feet), addresses several operational challenges identified in conventional mobile MRI units. Traditional mobile MRI scanners have typically been restricted to 2.4-metre (8-foot) width constraints.
Key design features include:
- Enhanced patient changing facilities with space for MRI-safe patient transfer equipment
- Expanded control room working area
- Additional 0.6 metres (2 feet) of clearance around the magnet and patient table
- Rapid deployment capability without modular building permit requirements
The system is being marketed for both short-term and long-term deployment options. The manufacturer suggests the unit can be operational within hours of arrival at a healthcare facility.
Mark Koers, CEO of Modular Devices, commented: “With over 40 years of experience as a mobile imaging solutions provider, we continue to innovate. With the new 10’ wide MRI, we’ve listened to our customer’s requests for a larger Mobile MRI with more space and created a first-of-its-kind 10’ wide Mobile MRI.”
