GE HealthCare introduces CareIntellect for perinatal care

GE HealthCare has announced the launch of CareIntellect for Perinatal, a cloud-based Software-as-a-Service application designed to deliver actionable insights for maternal and fetal care. The solution integrates clinical data from multiple sources into a unified interface to support perinatal workflow optimisation and clinical decision-making.

GE HealthCare introduces CareIntellect for perinatal care

Developed in collaboration with HCA Healthcare, the application aims to streamline perinatal monitoring by consolidating key maternal and fetal vital statistics including uterine activity, blood pressure, fetal heart rate and maternal SpO2 into a single chronological view. This integration is intended to reduce administrative burden and cognitive overload for care teams.

Clinical input shapes development

The development of CareIntellect for Perinatal incorporated feedback from labour and delivery specialists, with HCA Healthcare facilitating input from 29 physicians and 85 nurses across 12 hospitals.

“Input and feedback from clinicians was fundamental to the solution’s development,” said Jeff Caron, Chief Digital and Technology Officer, Patient Care Solutions, GE HealthCare. “That clinical voice informed every stage of development to help ensure relevance and impact at the point of care.”

Dr Michael Schlosser, Senior Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer at HCA Healthcare, added: “This collaboration is consistent with HCA Healthcare’s commitment to using its scale to improve perinatal care. We believe input from 29 physicians and 85 nurses in 12 hospitals will help to ensure this technology meets caregivers’ needs and supports the aim of achieving the best possible outcomes for mums and babies.”

Cloud-based infrastructure enables scalability

CareIntellect for Perinatal represents the second application within GE HealthCare’s CareIntellect family of clinical and operational applications. The platform utilises a common cloud-based infrastructure running on Amazon Web Services, designed to enable healthcare systems to deploy and scale new applications efficiently.

The shared infrastructure provides features including single sign-on, centralised access management and billing, and seamless updates. This architecture is intended to allow customers to add new capabilities without requiring individual product-by-product integration.

Supporting workflow efficiency

The application enables clinicians to monitor patient status, annotate clinical events, search historical data and conduct remote patient monitoring. By integrating information from disparate clinical sources, the system aims to reduce time spent on manual data synthesis and support care teams in maintaining focus on direct patient care.

Dr Owen Solad, Vice President of Clinical AI, Digital Transformation & Innovation at HCA Healthcare, stated: “We believe this tool has the potential to provide a new level of support for our clinicians. The goal is to support seamless integration into their workflow, delivering actionable insights directly at the point of care – all while upholding our commitment to patient safety.”

CareIntellect Perinatal (formerly Mural Perinatal Surveillance) is a 510(k)-cleared device in the United States. Feature availability varies by market and is dependent on regional regulatory authorisations.
