Ferno unveils next-generation powered EMS transport system
Ferno has introduced its most advanced powered transport solution to date at FDIC International 2025 in Indianapolis. The new system comprises the Power F2 Fastening System with Cross-Drive™ Technology and the Power X2 Ambulance Cot, designed to address the challenges faced by modern emergency medical services.
The next-generation system promises enhanced performance, improved safety features, and a streamlined user experience throughout the patient transport journey. Notable advancements include upgraded electronics, intuitive control mechanisms, and a forward-thinking design tailored to meet contemporary emergency response requirements.
Cross-compatibility breakthrough for ambulance fleets
A standout innovation in the new system is the Cross-Drive™ Technology, described as a first-of-its-kind feature offering cross-compatibility with both Ferno and Stryker cot systems. This technology delivers smooth loading and unloading while providing continuous push/pull assistance to reduce physical strain on healthcare providers.
“The Power F2 and Power X2 aren’t just product upgrades – they’re a vision for the future of EMS,” said Renee LaPine, CEO of Ferno. “We listened to medics, fleet managers, and frontline teams who asked for a system that’s stronger, simpler, and smarter. That’s exactly what we built.”
The cross-compatibility feature could prove particularly valuable for emergency services operating mixed fleets or transitioning between equipment systems, potentially offering greater operational flexibility and resource optimisation.
User-informed design process
According to Ferno, the Power F2 system was developed with substantial input from field professionals, resulting in a solution that prioritises safety, adaptability, and reliability for both patients and providers.
“What truly sets the Power F2 apart is how closely it was shaped by real-world feedback,” LaPine added. “This is EMS equipment built by and for the people who rely on it every day.”
The development approach reflects growing recognition within the medical equipment industry that user experience and operational efficiency are critical factors in emergency care environments where seconds count and provider wellbeing affects patient outcomes.
Proactive maintenance capabilities
Another key feature of the new system is Ferno Connect™ diagnostics, designed to facilitate proactive maintenance and minimise operational downtime. This integration of diagnostic capabilities suggests a shift toward more intelligent medical transport equipment that can help maintain readiness and extend service life.
For emergency medical services facing budgetary constraints and increasing call volumes, equipment reliability and maximum uptime represent significant operational concerns that such diagnostic capabilities aim to address.
Availability timeline
The Power F2 Fastening System and Power X2 Ambulance Cot are currently available for pre-order as of April 2025. Ferno has announced the official product launch is scheduled for August 2025.
