{"id":15642,"date":"2022-03-14T10:43:53","date_gmt":"2022-03-14T10:43:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/interhospi.com\/?p=15642"},"modified":"2022-03-14T10:43:53","modified_gmt":"2022-03-14T10:43:53","slug":"the-international-hospital-federation-issues-statement-in-support-of-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/interhospi.com\/the-international-hospital-federation-issues-statement-in-support-of-ukraine\/","title":{"rendered":"The International Hospital Federation issues statement in support of Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-15643 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/interhospi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/03\/IHF-logo.png\" alt=\"International Hospital Federation\" width=\"306\" height=\"306\" srcset=\"https:\/\/interhospi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/03\/IHF-logo.png 450w, https:\/\/interhospi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/03\/IHF-logo-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/interhospi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/03\/IHF-logo-80x80.png 80w, https:\/\/interhospi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/03\/IHF-logo-36x36.png 36w, https:\/\/interhospi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/03\/IHF-logo-180x180.png 180w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 306px) 100vw, 306px\" \/><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>The IHF stands with hospitals during conflict, calls on members to provide support<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The situation in Ukraine is a major concern for all of us, and the escalation of violence that has been reported on many different channels is alarming.<\/p>\n<p>On 25 February, we released a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/interhospi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/03\/IHF-Ukraine-msg.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">message<\/a>\u00a0of solidarity with the people and the healthcare community in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>The escalation of violence impacting hospitals and healthcare personnel is being reported by many authorities including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>World Health Organization (WHO) (<a href=\"https:\/\/extranet.who.int\/ssa\/Index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>WHO Director General, Dr\u00a0Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com.tr\/en\/europe\/who-deeply-concerned-over-reports-of-attacks-on-hospitals-in-ukraine\/2521535?mc_phishing_protection_id=28047-c8guudidu81bf197agmg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swissinfo.ch\/eng\/ukraine-health-centres-have-been-attacked--who-chief-says\/47406762\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>WHO Europe (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.euro.who.int\/en\/countries\/ukraine\/news\/news\/2022\/3\/running-a-hospital-while-your-country-is-under-attack-a-story-from-western-ukraine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unocha.org\/ukraine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.icrc.org\/en\/where-we-work\/europe-central-asia\/ukraine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Attacks on hospitals, healthcare workers, and ambulances are not acceptable. No matter the context. No matter the reasons. It is a violation of International Humanitarian Law, and we firmly stand against it.<\/p>\n<p>Many international organizations and local actors are working hard, both inside Ukraine and in the neighbouring countries, such as Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Moldova, and Romania to support\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/data2.unhcr.org\/en\/situations\/ukraine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">refugees<\/a>, mainly women and children. The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has issued an alert that the number of refugees could reach 4 million rapidly.<\/p>\n<p>IHF Members want to help, but the Ukrainians have limited logistical capacity to manage donations. We are recommending to the IHF community to get involved (either with financial or supplies support) through organizations acting in the field in neighbouring countries, or to the headquarters of these organizations. These trusted organizations have the capacity to redistribute the donations in a strategic manner.<\/p>\n<p>Many organizations are providing emergency assistance in the region. The IHF would suggest supporting the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.icrc.org\/en\/where-we-work\/europe-central-asia\/ukraine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Committee of the Red Cross<\/a>\u00a0(ICRC)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifrc.org\/national-societies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Societies for the Red Cross<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swiss-solidarity.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Swiss Solidarity<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msf.org\/ukraine\">M\u00e9decins Sans Fronti\u00e8res \/ Doctors Without Borders<\/a>\u00a0(MSF)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.care-international.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Care International<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unhcr.org\/ukraine-emergency.html\">UN Refugee Agency<\/a>\u00a0(UNHCR)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/emergencies\/situations\/ukraine-emergency\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">World Health Organization<\/a>\u00a0(WHO)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are also initiatives that our members and partners have shared with us that we believe you will be interested to discover and support. For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Polish Hospital Federation<\/strong> is cooperating with the Polish Medical Mission (PMM) to provide direct support to the hospitals in Ukraine, as well as in the Polish hospitals located near the Ukraine border (read more\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/interhospi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/03\/Polish-HF.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>).<br \/>\nDirect financial donations can be made via the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pmm.org.pl\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PMM website<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Teladoc Health<\/strong> is supporting hospitals in Ukraine through the Ukrainian Government (offering technology and doctors) and is helping refugees in Poland by providing virtual medical care.\n<p>If you are a healthcare professional who wants to volunteer, or if you want more information, you can contact Rafael Gotsens, International Medical Director, Teladoc Health, Inc.
